Annual Report, Summer 2023
As we roll through summer, pdxAMBUCS starts a new fiscal year which means our organization has been bringing #bigredtrykes to our community for seven years. Our most recent fiscal year we distributed over 20 trykes throughout our service area. And throughout the summer and fall we expect to deliver another 15!
National AMBUCS has a motto of “Shoulders Together” and locally we endeavor to serve this ideal by building partnerships with other organizations serving our community. . We are pleased to announce that two Amtrykes are now available for rental at Adaptive BikeTown. These adaptive pediatric tricycles are available for rental and tryout. The goal is to make a full set of AmTrykes available at this location and have an easy wishlist application for applicants after a successful rental.
After a pandemic break, we are also happy to announce that pdxAMBUCS was again part of the Adaptive Tricycle clinic. This clinic is now part of Sunday Parkways, an event held by the City of Portland, and hosted by Shriner’s Hospital for Children and Adaptive Sports Northwest. Each organization brought a stable of adaptive tricycles and let participants try them out on a closed loop adjacent to the main Sunday Parkways route. At the end of the day, there was a short group ride on the main route.
Our organization was also chosen to participate as part of the FOX 12 Surprise Squad, presented by Les Schwab Tire Centers. A tryke, sponsored by the Surprise Squad, was presented to a family in Albany. Our board president traveled down there for the delivery and taping of the segment.
Our board approved goals for the upcoming year are focused on strengthening our capacity for accomplishing our mission. The strategies we will employ will be to:
As a board we are very proud of what we have accomplished so far but we need your help! Please consider donating your time and money to keep #bigredtrykes rolling along.

Our board approved goals for the upcoming year are focused on strengthening our capacity for accomplishing our mission. The strategies we will employ will be to:
- Refocus on grants and fundraising to shorten the time on our waitlist and lessen burden on our current individual donors
- Have more in-person bike fairs
- Make a concerted effort to expand our core volunteers
- Build a stronger connection with the families we serve from the time they first engage until they receive their #bigredtryke
- Continue engaging with the community by building relationships with more therapists, partner organizations and our donor base.
As a board we are very proud of what we have accomplished so far but we need your help! Please consider donating your time and money to keep #bigredtrykes rolling along.
Adapted tricycles range in price from $600 - $1200 depending on each child’s needs. Despite the many benefits, these tricycles are not covered by insurance, meaning children and their families are required to find outside funding sources or rely on grants to get their bikes. pdxAMBUCS exists to fill this gap, fundraising for the tricycles to fill as many as possible.
So far, with community support, we’ve been able to get more than 200 children onto their tricycles! However, children are still waiting for a year or more, due to the imbalance between need and funds raised along with pandemic and supply chain issues. So give today! |
